The Situation in our Schools Today

Before I made the decision to run I spoke with many Lexington residents, people I’d known for a long time and people I’d just met. Almost uniformly the response was ‘we’re so glad - someone has to do something about this!’

In our community there is strong concern about the problems that exist in our schools. We are concerned about:

  • a budget shortfall of almost two million dollars
  • teacher layoffs and vital programs cut in response
  • an "implosion of senior management" - three superintendents in the last three years, and four superintendents in the last five years
  • a ‘hands-off’ School Committee unaware of what’s going on, accepting none of the responsibility when things go wrong

And we are concerned when we hear incumbent School Committee members say they are shocked when others discover what has happened in our schools under their watch.

Our Solution

I'll work to turn our 'hands-off' School Committee into a 'hands-on' School Committee.
